I agree, good summary. If correct (and I'm willing to assume he is) then any society including ours can expect more crime, more desperation, more people zealously turning to religion, more totalitarianism, and more polarization into two more extreme groups.
Have you prepared enough for hard times? Made yourself less dependent on things that are going to be harder to get and will cost you more? Downsized from an unnecessarily large house? Made it more energy efficient? Reduced your commute to work? Stored up food and ammo and other supplies? Great start.
How about your network of relatives, friends, and neighbors? Who can be counted on in desperate times? Who has useful skills, tools, crops, and other supplies? Is there a realistic plan in place for who is likely to provide shelter or food or etc. for others? Who gets turned away? By what methods or level of force? These things need to be considered ahead of time. "Winging it" as a crisis develops is generally too late.
